Final Conference on results of its activities in 2008
Public Union for
Gender Equality and Women’s Initiatives (GEWI) has held a Final Conference of
its activities on June 30, 2009 at Amirov Hall of Hyatt Tower I from 10-13:00.
The Final Conference was dedicated to the results of projects GEWI has
implemented in 2008. Related state agencies, local and international NGOs,
foreign embassies and Mass Media representatives have been invited to the
Ms. Ulviyya Mammadova, the Executive Director of GEWI presented the results of
projects the organization has held in 2008 and stressed the most important
achievements the organization gained for the past year. She also gave
information about the important advocacy work GEWI has done on Draft Law of
Azerbaijan Republic on Domestic Violence and on other issues.
The next presentation was by Ms. Yelena Gasimova, GEWI’s expert in monitoring
project on Convention on Elimination of all kinds of Discrimination Against
Women (CEDAW). She presented the findings of monitoring and the Alternative
report prepared based on the findings of monitoring, which has been submitted to
UN CEDAW Committee in NY.
The results of another monitoring done by GEWI on realization of Recommendations
on Balanced Participation of Women and Men in public and political decision
making process made by Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe was
presented by the expert of GEWI Mr. Nizami Heydarov.
Besides this, gender expert and director of Empowering Education Center Ms.
Gulara Afandiyeva informed the Conference participants about the trainings done
by GEWI and the outcomes of these trainings.
Each presentation was followed by question and answer session, where the
participants had the opportunity to express their views.

GEWI held Round Table discussions in the
topic of “On the draft law on Domestic Violence of Azerbaijan Republic”
on the monitoring of implementation of Recommendation Rec (2003)3 of
the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on balanced
participation of Women and Men in Political and Public
Decision-making in Azerbaijan Republic
and Alternative Reporton implementation of the
Convention on Elimination of All Types of Discrimination against
Women in Azerbaijan Republic.
2008 Public Union for Gender Equality and Women’s Initiatives has
published booklet about its activities.
